The Government of Saskatchewan has released its 2025-26 Public Accounts, reporting an operating deficit of $947 million.
This deficit represents an improvement of $263 million compared to previous projections. However, it also indicates a $960 million reduction from the expected surplus. The province's total revenue saw a modest increase of $77 million. In contrast, expenses rose by $1 billion, reaching a total of $22 billion. The increase in expenditures is primarily attributed to heightened demands in healthcare and public services.
Despite a $1.5 billion increase in net debt, Saskatchewan maintains the second-lowest net debt-to-GDP ratio among Canadian provinces at 16.5%. The province's net debt now stands at $19.9 billion. The 2025-26 Public Accounts underscore the fiscal adjustments made due to evolving economic conditions and increased service demands across essential sectors within Saskatchewan.
