The Government of Saskatchewan recently conducted its inaugural Crown public offering for helium and associated gases, marking a new approach to mineral rights acquisition in the province.
On June 22, 2026, this first-ever offering aimed to enhance transparency and competition within Saskatchewan's helium and natural hydrogen sectors, according to the Government of Saskatchewan. The initiative is projected to stimulate further investment in these areas.
The offering successfully generated $15.9 million. All 15 available permits were acquired by Millennium Land Ltd. These permits cover a substantial area exceeding 267,334 hectares, indicating a significant commitment to exploring and developing helium resources within the province.
This offering represents the first of three planned public offerings for the current fiscal year. The Ministry responsible for these offerings intends to conduct two additional rounds, further signaling Saskatchewan's strategic focus on the growth of its helium industry.
The Government of Saskatchewan states that these public offerings are designed to streamline the process for companies to secure exploration and development rights, thereby contributing to economic growth and resource development in the province.
