The federal and British Columbia governments have launched a joint initiative to provide specialized training and support for workers affected by international trade tariffs while strengthening the province's long-term economic resilience.
This partnership involves a federal investment of up to $1.15 million through the Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program (SWSP) and a contribution of up to $220,000 from the Government of British Columbia through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. This funding will support skills training for approximately 200 workers in the wood manufacturing and food processing sectors who have been impacted by tariff regulations.
Administered by the BC Wood Specialties Group, the project aims to help workers acquire new skills and adapt to changing industry demands. The initiative also seeks to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of British Columbia's key economic sectors.
The SWSP, managed by Employment and Social Development Canada, supports projects that address sector-specific labour market needs. These projects aim to provide sustainable and inclusive solutions for current and future workforce challenges in various economic sectors across Canada.
