A new workforce training program has been launched in Kamloops, British Columbia, to prepare individuals for careers as early childhood educators.

The program, developed in partnership with the YMCA of Southern Interior BC and funded by the B.C. government, aims to address the demand for qualified early childhood educators in the region. Participants will receive 36 weeks of training, including an 11-week paid work experience component. The curriculum is designed to lead to certification as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Assistant and, with additional practicum hours, full ECE certification.

The B.C. government is investing $350,000 into the program through the Community Workforce Response Grant, which is administered by the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. This funding covers tuition, textbooks, and a living allowance for eligible participants, removing financial barriers to entry. The program is specifically targeting individuals who are unemployed or precariously employed.
