Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced upcoming changes to Express Entry category-based draws.
According to the IRCC Newsroom, these changes will include a focus on specific occupations. The announcement indicates that categories such as healthcare and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) occupations are among those to be prioritized in the revised draw system.
The Express Entry system is Canada's primary method for managing applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. It includes programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
Category-based selection was introduced to allow IRCC to invite candidates who possess specific in-demand skills or work experience, or who have strong French language proficiency. This approach aims to address specific economic needs and labour market shortages across Canada.
Further details regarding the implementation timeline and a comprehensive list of all updated categories are expected from IRCC. The department stated that more information will be provided as these changes are finalized and rolled out.
