Capilano University has opened its first on-campus student housing complex in North Vancouver, offering 300 beds and a new dining hall for both domestic and international students.
The new complex, named the Capilano University Residence, aims to enhance living conditions for students. According to BC Government News, the facility is designed to provide affordable accommodation options. This development addresses a long-standing need for on-campus housing at the institution.
The project included the construction of two six-storey buildings. These buildings house the 300 student beds, alongside common areas and the new dining hall. The BC Government News release highlighted that the housing is intended to support a diverse student body.
Funding for the Capilano University Residence was a collaborative effort. The Province of British Columbia contributed "C$41.5 million" to the project. Capilano University also provided financial contributions, investing "C$44.6 million" for a total project cost of "C$86.1 million." This investment reflects commitments to improving student success and access to post-secondary education.
The opening of this facility represents a significant step for Capilano University in supporting its student population with accessible housing and dining services. The new residence began accepting students in the "first week of September 2023."
