Starting in July 2024, the number of emergency medicine residency positions will increase. The University of Manitoba's Max Rady College of Medicine will offer four new five-year residency positions specializing in Emergency Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Additionally, four new two-year Family Medicine Plus One (Enhanced Skills) Emergency Medicine positions will be available, bringing the total to eight new positions annually.
These expanded programs will enable trainees to undertake rural emergency medicine rotations in communities such as Brandon, Selkirk, Steinbach, and Portage la Prairie. This is intended to provide residents with experience in various healthcare settings and support rural health needs.
